What are beta tests?

These beta tests are used to create new forms of our existing certification exams. The CIPT exam, for example, may have a Form 1, Form 2, Form 3, etc.

All forms of the exams cover the same content, which is specified in the Bodies of Knowledge.*

*This CIPP/E beta exam will also be testing updated content on:

  • Machine learning.
  • Ethics related to AI.
  • Transfer impact assessments.
How long are the beta exams?

The CIPP/E and CIPT beta tests have 100 questions each and are 3 hours in length.

Where and when can I take the exams?

There are two delivery options. You can test online via remote proctoring. Or you can go in person to a Pearson VUE facility; they offer over 6,000 computer-based testing centers around the world. Please note the number of participants is limited, as are the testing dates.

The beta testing windows are:
  • CIPT: April 12-17
    Registration closes April 16
  • CIPP/E: April 26-May 1
    Registration closes April 30
How do I register?

First, purchase your CIPT or CIPP/E beta exam through the IAPP Store. Then schedule an exam time within the beta-testing timeframe.

After you have completed your exam, please allow up to four weeks for your results.
